Cambodia Gambling Dens
Saturday, 22. August 2020
There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the border from next door Thailand, in which casino gambling is against the law. Eight gambling halls are established in a generally tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent location, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; although, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are allegedly required to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is true of many border crossings.
The initial Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge casino, highlights 150 slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling den is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machines and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the normal tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive vacation and hotel compound that highlights a number of amenities in addition to the gambling den, which houses 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machine games and eighty eight gaming tables.
