Cambodia Gambling Halls
Monday, 21. September 2015
There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, where casino wagering is not legal. Eight gambling halls are established in a relatively small location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent area, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of controls requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; still, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 17:00, and although visas are apparently required to cross, there are ways around this, as is real of many border crossings.
The original Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau casino, contains 150 one armed bandits and sixty table games. The Naga gambling den is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of 150 slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machines and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational resort and hotel complex that highlights numerous luxuries accompanying the casino, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 tables.
